Hi friends! I’m back from a lengthy newsletter hiatus - I have been traveling so much and spring flew right on by. Thank you so much for your patience (!!) and stay tuned for more fun here soon…
I visited Mallorca for the first time in May and fell in LOVE. What a magical place! Obviously there are sooo many hotels to choose from, but here are ten I think you should have on your radar. I love that all of these (except one) have less than 50 rooms for an intimate, boutique feel.
First up, Palma - the capital and main city of Mallorca. With a rich history and a lively food and shopping scene, there is so much to do and see here. An easy 15 minute drive from the airport, Palma serves as a great home base with access to many day trips around the island by car, bus or train.
PALMA
Sant Francesc Singular: SWOON. If you’re looking for a boutique yet elevated experience, this is your place. I loved my stay here! The hotel is located in Old Town Palma and is an easy walk from the heart of things. With 32 guest rooms and 10 suites, the property has an intimate yet upscale feel with a rooftop pool and bar, restaurant, lobby bar and the loveliest staff. I loved the curated handbook the hotel shares with guests with recommendations across the island.
Posada Terra Santa: A hidden gem and an incredible mid-range boutique option. This is also located in Old Town Palma and has a small pool with a (large!) rooftop for those summer days. The room was so comfortable and I love that they have a restaurant and spa on-site. The spa is free for guests, and you can reserve a time to have access to it all by yourself.
Can Bordoy Guest House - A 24-room 5-star hotel with a 19th century feel. Many describe Can Bordoy as a “sanctuary” with the open-air garden, pool and spa on-site. There is also a plant-forward restaurant, BOTÀNIC, that is well-loved.
Concepcibio by Nobis: Originally built in the mid-16th century and formerly a soap factory, the historical property now exists as a inviting boutique hotel with 31 guest-rooms, an in-house restaurant and bar, a pool and event spaces — all designed by award-winning Swedish firm Wingårdhs. You’ll find this in a great central location, where the Old Town meets Santa Catalina.
Other options: Antiqua Palma, Hotel Basilica, El Llorenç Parc de la Mar
Moving outside of Palma, there are sooo many beautiful places to explore in Mallorca. Looking for a countryside retreat? An artist’s oasis? An oceanfront escape? Want to stay in a former castle? There is something for everyone here.
OTHER AREAS
The Lodge - You’ll find this 5-star resort in the countryside of Mallorca, surrounded by lavender fields and olive trees. Heaven! The property is minutes away from the Formentor coast and many charming towns. There are 24 suites available, a lovely restaurant and spa on-site as well as bike rentals so you can explore the property.
Finca Serena: A convenient 5-star stay located just 20 minutes from the airport and the main city of Palma. You’ll find this beautiful hotel in the countryside surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and lavender. There is a farm-to-table restaurant and plenty of room for privacy with 25 rooms scattered around the 40-hectare estate.
Hotel Corazon: A new boutique hotel in the Tramuntana Mountains, located between the towns of Deià and Soller. Intimate in size, Hotel Corazon is housed in a historic 16th-century finca with 15 guestrooms on 12 acres of farmland. Coined as a space “run by artists, for artists”, the property is truly an immersive experience with a farm, restaurant, art space, and shop.
Castell Son Claret: A former castle, set on a 132-hectare estate at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains. The idyllic property features 43 rooms and suites, each featuring terraces, a charming garden, or a private pool.
Can Ferreta: A 5-star hotel in the historic centre of Santanyí, housed in a 17th-centruy mansion and a short distance from some of the best beaches on the island. You’ll find 32 rooms and suites here along with their restaurant, OCRE.
La Residencia, Belmond: A luxurious splurge option from the renowned Belmond group, located in the charming town of Deià. The hotel offers 70 rooms with unrivalled views over the Tramuntana Mountains and Mediterranean Sea. If you don’t stay at the property, you can still visit their beautiful restaurant, El Olivo. Definitely make a reservation in advance and try to go for dinner at sunset if you can.
