Happy August! I just read we’re technically at the halfway point to the official end of summer, so if it feels like summer is flying by, we still have time to soak it in. With the heatwave in full swing across California right now, it feels like summer isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
I’m currently roadtripping up the coast, stopping in all my favorite places along the way. I’m from Southern California and my fiancée is from the Bay Area so we oftentimes make this drive to see family. We usually haul it up in one long drive up the 5, but this trip, we’ve made our way up over a proper road trip.
While I do love a summer abroad, there’s something about a California summer that can’t be replicated. I’ll recap everywhere we stayed (5 hotels and counting…), but in the meantime, read on for the edit.

Hotel Crush:
Grand Hotel Son Net - One of those properties with a story to tell. A 17th-century Mallorcan manor turned grown-up countryside escape, nestled in the Tramuntana mountains. The manor reopened in 2023 after a restoration led by decorator Lorenzo Castillo, and the bones are something special: a private chapel, a courtyard with a spring-fed well, and grounds dotted with olive orchards and the estate's own Malvasia vineyard. There are just 31 rooms, each with its own personality. I just had honeymooners return from here and they raved about it!

Ojai Valley Inn - The property for anniversaries, girls trips, babymoons and getaways when you just need some peace and quiet. Ojai has long been considered one of those energetically special places, and there is something about this property that feels like a proper exhale.
You’ll find multiple dining options (I love a late summer dinner at The Oak to catch sunset!), both a family-friendly pool and an adults-only pool, a world-class spa and The Artist Cottage which offers a variety of creative activities. We stayed in a spacious Fireside Terrace King Room, and the rooms facing this side arguably get the best sunsets over the hills. Don't miss borrowing the complimentary bikes in the morning and taking the white picket fence path straight into town. A breath of fresh air just two hours from Los Angeles.
